Term 4 Week 1
Welcome back
Welcome back to all students and families to Term 4! From the smiles on the faces of the students, everyone seemed to have had a wonderful holiday break and are very happy to be back with their friends and teachers. Term 4 is a busy one with lots of fun and activities on our calendar. Please keep an eye out for date savers for these events via our newsletter, website, SeeSaw and our Facebook page.
Uniform
We still have one more week for the complete transition to the summer uniform. One thing that I have noticed is that black sandshoes are being worn with the summer dress uniform. Our uniform policy for both Summer and Winter is that black leather shoes are to be worn. I appreciate that there are times when the incorrect uniform or shoes need to be worn. If this is the case, please let your child’s class teacher know this and when you think that the situation will be rectified.
Playground at the front of St Monica’s
I have asked each class to have a meeting this week to discuss what ideas and hopes the students have to recreate this front play space. Their ideas will be brought to the Student Voice group and shared with me. I will then take these recommendations to my conversations with landscapers in the coming weeks. If you have any ideas or suggestions that you would like to share, please send me an email (esayer@stmonica.catholic.edu.au). I think the potential for this space is very exciting and I look forward to sharing with the community the ideas developed during the consultation and planning process.
Drop off and pick up time
During my time at St Monica’s one thing that does deeply concern me is the students’ safety at Drop off and especially the Pick up time in the afternoon. Each child is very important and is irreplaceable. Accidents happen in a heartbeat but the impact can be lifelong. I am meeting with the council about possible safety improvements but where the greatest improvement can come from is the adults who are picking up children. Please teach your child/ren road safety and cross the road at the designated crossing. Please do not do three point turns at or just near the crossing. Please do not park across the driveways of our neighbours, good relationships with the neighbours are very important to schools. The council will be present over the next few weeks to observe parents/carers and will issue parking tickets for those who are not following the road rules. I have worked in 9 different schools and parking and the collection of children is always a frustration. No child will be left alone at the end of the day. We will keep them safe until you are there. I ask for your help and support with this very important issue.
God’s blessings,
Emily Sayer
We will begin the Greenacres Walkerville Parish 2021/2022 Sacramental Preparation Program for children wishing to celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist with an Information Session THIS SUNDAY, 17 October, after Sunday Mass at 10:30am at St Martin’s Church Hall. We ask that you consider joining us for Mass first at 9:30am at St Martin’s Church.
This session is for both parents and child/ren. It is an opportunity for you to hear about what our Parish offers and then decide whether you and your child would like to be a part of the Program.
If you are considering being part of our 2021/2022 Program attendance at this meeting is essential, although coming to this session does not commit you to participating in the Program.
If you have any questions please contact Rebecca at the Parish Office on telephone 8261 6200 or admin@gwparish.org.au.
"This week the year 6 class were joined by Michelle and Jesse from the University of SA who challenged the students with Soma Cubes. This was the first of 8 visits they will make this term as part of their STEM in School Challenge, which will encourage the students to be ‘knowledgeable, inquisitive and innovative thinkers’. The students were exhausted by the end of it, but are already looking forward to next week’s Chemistry Challenge!"
We are holding our Book Fair on 26-29 October 2021.
Book Fairs help the school stock up on resources to enrich your children’s education. Best of all, each Fair provides kids access to more books.
It is also a great gift for Christmas.
More information will be coming.
