Term 3 Week 2
Welcome to Term 3! I hope that each of you were able to have some time to relax and just take it a bit slower. I was very lucky that I was able to travel to Brisbane to visit family and soak up some lovely winter sunshine. Students and teachers have returned to school with enthusiasm and excitement. Watching the children greet each with squeals of delight when they saw their friends arrive and sharing their holiday stories was just wonderful. We have also welcomed some new members to our community, and we hope that they already feel very much connected and an important part of St Monica’s. This includes 16 new Reception children Mila, Rivers, Airlie, Manteg, Anoop, Gia-Rose, Trevish, Samuel, Cian, Gursaanzh, Edric, Harry, Kiera, Eloise, Harvey, Bella and their enthusiastic teacher Jade Ryan. We also welcome Nithara in Year 5, Nancy in Year 3 and Daisy in Year 1.
This morning we gathered as a whole school community to celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop at mass in our beautiful parish church. Fr Kym’s homily spoke to us of the qualities of Mary which helped her to make such a significant impact on so many people's life. Her bravery, persistence and faith in God allowed her to challenge injustice and speak up for the venerable in the community. We thank Father Kym for his support and leadership in faith, who also took time to speak to our years five and six classes on the theology of the Apostle Creed, which they are exploring in RE.
It was also lovely to see so many parents and grandparents back in the church to once again celebrate the Mass with us. Our next whole school mass is Friday Week 5, where we will celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Monica. You are all very welcome to join us for this mass.
Living Learning Leading Framework survey (LLL F)
By now you should have received an email and a SeeSaw message asking parents and caregivers to participate in the Living Learning Leading Framework survey (LLL F ). We know that, like our students, we can always strive to improve in our teaching and learning, our community connections, the development of our learning spaces and how we utilise our resources. The data that is obtained from this survey helps identify the key areas of improvement during the next 12 months. All key stakeholders are invited to participate in this survey. It is completely confidential, is online and should only take 5 minutes to complete. The survey is open now and runs until 12 August. I hope that many of you will provide your feedback through this survey and I thank you in advance for your support of our community.

SALA – South Australia Living Artists
How exciting – the opening of our school as a SALA venue for 2022 is drawing close!
Every student in the school has created at least one piece of art to exhibit and it is based on the theme of “God’s dream for the world” We have used the words of Mary MacKillop to inspire our artwork, “How I wish that we would only remember that we are but travellers here.” This statement reminds us all that we are stewards not owners of the gift of creation and we need to seek to live out God’s dream for the world.
All families are invited to attend our exhibition on either Wednesday 10 or Thursday 11 August, 3pm-5pm in the school library. The Year 4 and 5 Performance Choir will also be entertaining us on the Wednesday afternoon. Entry is via the back of the school. I hope that you can join us for an afternoon of culture and fun.
God’s blessings,
Emily Sayer
Principal
This week we were lucky enough to have Maria Mignone (Elisia's mum) volunteer an entire day of her time to us. Maria, with the help of some of our year 6s, harvested vegetables from our school garden and made a delicious soup which was donated to the Adelaide Day Centre for the Homeless. Maria also supervised the Student Voice as they continued to paint the staircase in preparation for SALA. We thank Maria for her generous contribution to our school community!
Each year, Student Voice is active in recognising and celebrating the many and diverse cultural backgrounds of our students. Some artwork that was done by our previous Student Voice Representative has been beautifully framed and displayed in the Library.
This year’s representative have been busy working on their own art for upcoming SALA Festival. We can’t wait to share!
After some amazing auditions that demonstrated high order thinking, creativity and problem solving, our Year 5/6 team has been selected.
