Term 2 Week 3 2023
Mother’s Day Celebrations
What a beautiful experience last Friday, when we welcomed all our mums, grandmothers, and special ladies for a delicious breakfast and a very moving liturgy. The number of special visitors was higher than we have ever had, and we could not have been happier to be able to host this special community function.
The highlight was the liturgy led by Year 2ML where each child processed in with a personally drawn image of their mum and placed it with great care on the altar. The reading shared was the story of Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth. Mrs Ridley’s shared a reflection with the students about how their mum was a bit like Mary in her hope and excitement about finding out she was to become a mother. The joy that she would have experienced in finding out this wonderful news.
The highlight of the liturgy was the whole school singing to the mums a very powerful and beautiful song “A Thousand Years” by Christine Perri. There was not a dry eye in the church and the children sang it with so much love and pride. Well done and thank you to each of them.
Many of us have inspiring women in our lives, who have shaped us and helped us to become the person we are now and who we will become in the future. I am blessed to have my mum, Frances, still a very active part of my life. Many of my achievements would not have occurred if she wasn’t there on the journey with me. She is my hero, and I am sure that my siblings would also agree.
To all you wonderful women – thank you for who you are and what you do for others. We ask for God’s blessings on you every day.
Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week is all about celebrating the excellent teaching and learning that happens in catholic schools. We have spent time this week highlighting all the individual things that make St Monica’s so special. The theme for this year’s Catholic Education Week is #LoveMyCatholicSchool. Keep an eye on our socials to see what students, parents and staff think is so amazing about St Monica’s. Please feel free to share it with others. You are also most welcome to email the school to share what you think is unique about our community. #LoveMyCatholicSchool

We are very fortunate the Virgara family are returning this year to host our Wine & Cheese Night. They are looking forward to showcasing some of their wines. They are also an old scholar family, their son Antonio graduated in 2019. The Virgara family and their passion for wine is creating a new taste sensation - the blending of Italian wine-making tradition with the distinctive flavour of the Adelaide Plains.
Angle Vale has been home to Virgara Wines for over 50 years. With its mild climate and rich soil, it was the natural place for the Virgara family to establish their winery. The fertile soils of the Adelaide Plains, combined with the long sunlit days and cool nights, ensure premium growing conditions for some of the finest grapes and produce in Australia. The lush grounds and extensive lawns surrounding the winery make it an incredible setting for a function set by the award-winning team at Sneaky's restaurant. Virgara Wines is a significant stakeholder in the increasingly popular Adelaide Plains wine region, which is one of South Australia’s oldest wine-producing areas. This now re-emerging region is creating enormous interest due to the unique, intensely coloured and richly-flavoured wines.
Last week Xavier completed at the North Adelaide SAPSA Cross Country 3km time trial. He came first which qualified him to the next stage which will be held in Oakbank. If he is successful at Oakbank he will be selected in the South Australian SAPSASA Cross Country team, putting him in the top 5 cross country runners for his age group in SA. We can’t wait to hear how we went!
If your child completed a holiday activity which can be recognised as Children's University hours, please ask them to come and see me with their passports. A number of children have completed activities on the Children's University Portal, please send in their passports for stamping.
Remember to consider following Children’s University on Facebook and log in to the Portal for ideas.

We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of the land upon which St Monica’s learn, work and play.
May we walk gently on this land acknowledging the Kaurna people's deep spiritual connection with their country.
