Term 2 Week 10
Each term I am amazed when we arrive at Week 10 and wonder where did that term go? I remember as a child thinking how the terms seemed to drag on and on but as an adult they fly and I have not met all the goals that I have set for myself!
I have spent some time looking at the calendar for this term and have been so pleased to see all the learning and community opportunities that we have been able to engage with. The students have gone to Lacrosse and Netball carnivals. We have been able to celebrate assemblies, liturgies and masses as a whole school again. Our special breakfast for our Mums and other special ladies was so successful. We have had a student disco and a wonderful Wine and Cheese night for the parents. Our Student Voice have been active in their leadership in so many projects. Our outreach to support others is continuing to grow and make a difference in our local community to those struggling. The Vinnies Winter Appeal has been generously supported by so many families. I could continue with so many other highlights and I haven’t even mentioned all the amazing learning that our children have undertaken.
I have been engaging with a great initiative from the ABC. This year ABC is celebrating its 90th birthday. As a child who grew up watching this channel not through choice but parental expectations, I now appreciate the many varied programs that they share. To celebrate 90 years of the ABC connecting communities, they’ve partnered with Volunteering Australia to encourage Australians to come together and make a pledge: 90 minutes of kindness in your community. I have shared their link with you, and this might be something that you as a family could do together during the holidays. I would love to hear if you have completed 90 minutes of kindness in your community.

You may have noticed in the Advertiser or on Catholic Education of SA’s social media that a decision to freeze school fees for 2023 has been made. You should have received an email from us to explain this in more detail. I remind families that at any time if you need support with paying of school fees, please contact myself or Louise Watkins for a chat.
We start next term with our sixteen new Reception students. Their excitement and enthusiasm for learning new things is just wonderful and their energy levels are never ending. I hope all families received and read the letter about Samuel and I thank those who have responded with such positivity, support and a beautiful welcome to this family. One of the many reasons I love being at St Monica’s.
I hope that the holidays gives you all some time for rest and relaxation and some special time spent together.
God’s blessings,
Emily Sayer
Principal
A big thank you to all students for really making an effort this term to reduce waste and help our environment through our NUDE Food Challenge.
Congratulations to AUGUSTINE who won the challenge and is awarded 50 Spirit Cup points.
We will start a new challenge next term!
Happy Holidays from Student Voice
Thank you from the Greenacres Walkerville St Vincent de Paul Conference!
The St Vincent de Paul Society’s mission is to live the Gospel message, serving Christ by helping those in need showing love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society. The Society offers ‘a hand up’ to people in need, by respecting their dignity, sharing hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny. The generous and ongoing support we receive from St Monica’s Parish School enables those in our community who are experiencing hard times, to receive a ‘hand up’.
Thank you to all the Students, Parents and Staff for your generous donations of non-perishable food, supermarket gift cards and support of the Hot Chocolate and Muffin Day. Our food cupboards are overflowing and the funds raised will go towards helping with Utility Bills, medical expenses and being able to supply clothing and basic furniture to the Companions we visit.
On behalf of those who will receive your donations, we thank you!!
Today the whole school enjoyed the fun of wearing our PJs to school. The day begun with classes enjoying a hot chocolate and muffin. A huge thank you to Student Voice, Maise Henderson and Pat Patience for making all the muffins! The day ended with an extended lunch play to continue the celebrations. The day was not only a lot of fun but also managed to raise important funds for the St Vincent de Paul Society.
On Thursday 7 of July, St Monica’s students in Year's 3-6 went to Netball SA Stadium and had a lot of fun playing netball. They played in year level teams and in boys and girls teams. Students supported their team and every time they went on and gave lots of encouraging words. All of the students in each team took turns of different positions in the games so everyone got a different experience.
We say a big thanks to all of the parents and teachers, especially Mr M, for organising this event. All of the kids really enjoyed themselves!
Aditi, Year 6
