Term 1 Week 9
I hope that all St Monica’s community members are going gently in what is an everchanging and challenging time. I would like to thank you all for your support and understanding as we seem to be going through a peak of positive cases now. Over the last few weeks, we have had just under ten percent of our student community either test positive or be classified as a close contact and had some staff members need to be in isolation too. We have managed well due to the flexibility and professionalism of our staff and an amazing group of students who have modelled resilience and a ‘go with the flow’ approach to changing teachers and classes. On a selfish not I would like to personally acknowledge and thank all staff for their support and patience – it has made a huge difference to my work and wellbeing. Ubuntu!
Sports Day 2022
As you would be aware we have decided to postpone St Monica’s Sports Day until Term 4. We are currently experiencing a peak in the number of staff and students who are testing positive to COVID 19 or are close contacts.
I apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment that this has caused any members of our school community, but we have put the health and wellbeing of the community first.
As soon as we are able to confirm a date, this will be shared with you. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Learning Conversations – Week 10
You would have received information about how to book a time to speak with your child’s teacher about his or her learning and wellbeing journey on the School Interview website. As we are not able to meet in person, we will be conducting these conversations via MS Teams. To facilitate this, we will be using each child’s device and their school email address. Class teachers will be sending an invite via the email, and you can accept this or wait until the appointed date and time and the teacher will ‘admit’ you to the meeting. An explanation of the process has been sent to you electronically and a hard copy has been given to your child. If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact your child’s teacher in the first place.
God’s blessings,
Emily Sayer
Principal

Due to the unusual start to the school year the iPad Levy has been invoiced to the school fees and will appear on your Statement of Fees. The levy is not included in the instalments, as normally it would be paid at the beginning of the year before the distribution of the iPads.
The iPad Levy is as follows:
Year 4 $220
Year 5 – 6 $200
The iPad Levy covers the purchase of the iPad and cover, maintenance of the iPad and insurance. This fee is due and payable by Friday, 8 April 2022, and can be made via Qkr App, EFT or by credit card. If payment is not received by the due date restrictions will be placed on the iPads and usage.
The P&F would like to thank everyone who donated delicious baked goods to the election day cake stall and who volunteered to sell cakes on the day. We managed to raise just over $700 for the school, which is a fantastic effort. Those funds will help support the students and the school community.
Many thanks to Tricia, Leanne, Paige, Kate, Katie, Anna and the amazing St Monica’s staff members for donating your time on the day.
This week St Monica's participated in the Catholc Schools Swimming Carnival. St Monica’s Is very good at swimming carnivals. We were against some other stong Catholic schools and I thought that our team did excellent this year.
At 11:50am we left for the swimming carnival we arrived 12:30pm and went in for practice. After practice we started the races at 1:00pm. The open medley was first on the list, later everyone did fifty or twenty five meters backstroke and freestyle. It a long carnival because it was already 4:00pm when we came back.
Fun fact alert: The Marion swimming centre is the largest pool in SA.
