Term 2 Week 2
Welcome back to Term 2! The children have come back with excitement and ready to learn. I hope that all families had some time to just be together and relax or be active. We all know that the research tells us that taking care of your physical, mental and emotional health is so important, but we are creatures of habit and we tend to put self-care to the side in our busyness.
Winter uniform
Today ends our transition period for the change over from Summer to Winter uniform. Thank you for ensuring that your child/ren all come prepared for their school day and in the correct uniform. If you are unsure of what our uniform consists of, please visit our school website for this information and images.
COVID updates
As of next week, I would like to invite families to come back onsite in the mornings or afternoons. If you are coming onsite we ask you to wear a mask when indoors (classrooms, office, hall). We can also start gathering as a whole school community for assemblies and liturgies but due to the limited space in the hall and the density allowed we are only able to have the families of the host class attend an assembly or liturgy. Again masks would need to worn whilst indoors. Hopefully we will see the remaining restrictions removed soon.
Federal Election
St Monica’s is a polling station for the upcoming Federal Election on Saturday 21 May. The Parents and Friends group have been very industrious and have organised a Sausage Sizzle to be run and hopefully we can tempt lots of voters to spend their money before leaving our school. If you are able to assist at all on the day, please let Annette know.
I would like to say a very sincere and large thank you to the following companies who have kindly offered donations. This saves us costs and enables all the money raised to go back to the students of St Monica’s. Thank you to these businesses and I encourage our families to support them:
Slape and Sons
Dulwich Bakery, Collinswood
ANZAC DAY
I would like to thank the following senior leaders, and their families, for representing our school at the ANZAC Day Remembrance during the last school holidays:
Erik Cunningham
Ilario Cavellaro
Ryan McDonnell
Georgia Taddeo
Mrs Patience, who was also in attendance, shared with me what a credit these students were to our school in their participation in the ceremony on this day.
Congratulations
Learning is a life-long experience and that even includes adults who may think that their learning time is finished. Two of our staff attended their graduation ceremonies in the holidays and received their Masters in Education. I would like to congratulate Sarah Morris and Rachel Milosevic on this wonderful achievement and commitment to learning. We are very proud of both educators and their achievement.
Community Event
Please mark in your diary Friday 24 June as a date to keep free. We will be holding a children's disco and whilst the children are busy busting a move, the adults will have a separate event to be able to reconnect with each other. More details will be shared once they have been finalised but mark it in now with a big red pen and look forward to catching up soon.
Important Policies
Last Term I shared with you via the newsletter two important policies regarding child protection. I have included two more links to:
Responding to Online Safety Incidents in South Australian schools: Guidelines for staff working in education settings
Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum information for educators

If you would like any clarification or have any questions, please come and see me.
Have a wonderful weekend.
God’s blessings,

In the Catholic tradition, the season of Easter is celebrated for 40 days. Starting on Easter Sunday with the ressurection of Jesus through to Pentecost when the disciples of Jesus were gifted with the Holy Spirit to help them to continue the work and message of Jesus. In classrooms, students are exploring the ressurection and its themes of hope of new beginings, love that God has for us all and our role to be the hands and feet of Jesus here on earth. From the darkness and sadness of Good Friday comes the light and joy of the ressurection, an opportunity to transform and embrace new beginings.
